Vermi compost is a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner, It is commonly referred to as “black gold”, made by employing different species of worms, primarily earthworms or red wigglers (Eisenia fetida), during the composting process. These worms convert organic waste—kitchen leftovers, garden waste, and other biodegradable materials—into a valuable, nutrient-rich material by breaking them down.
Worms eat organic material during the organic vermi manure process, and they then expel it as vermicast, also known as worm castings, which is a more broken-down form. The plant nutrients nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, and trace minerals are abundant in vermicast, together with helpful bacteria and enzymes. It strengthens the structure of the soil, increases water retention, and gives plants a slow-release supply of nutrients.
